Barcelona have been boosted by the news that defender Gerard Pique has began training ahead of the crucial run-up of fixtures both in the league and the Champions League.

Gerard Pique has been unavailable for selection after the 3-1 win over AC Milan in the quarter-finals. Barcelona will be facing a number of important matches including the likes of the Champions League semi-final against Chelsea and the El Clasico at the Camp Nou.

Without the presence of the influential Gerard Pique, Barcelona have shipped in a number of goals over the last couple of matches. Hence, they were certainly worried about the prospect of losing these important matches.

Cesar Rodrigues has held the record for the most number of goals for Barcelona at 232, but Lionel Messi has just broken the record at just 24 years. The record has remained since the late 1940s, which makes it even more special given that Barcelona have witnessed many great players during this period.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola was extremely delighted with the result of the match, despite the fact that Barcelona had defender Gerard Pique sent off in the match.

Barcelona could manage only a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Osasuna recently, which give the opportunity for Real Madrid to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that he will not be interested in becoming part of a team that has Real Madrid Pepe as a player.

Real Madrid defender Pepe was caught stamping deliberately on Lionel Messi during the recent 2-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey.

Pepe has been subjected to a number of disciplinary procedures in the recent matches between Barcelona, which has made Barcelona defender Gerard Pique feel that it is not sensible to have a player like Pepe in the dressing room.

Even though Pepe was punished with a yellow card immediately after the incident, it is thought that the card was not directly linked to the incident and to a previous foul.

They also took the lead and extended it even more through the excellent play by Cesc Fabregas and Xavi.

Even though it is quite easy for any player to say that they were confident of beating the opponents, Gerard Pique has said that Barcelona’s recent record against Real Madrid was one of the reasons for him to believe that they are capable of beating Real Madrid.

Gerard Pique is willing to play through the pain barrier tomorrow night if it helps Barcelona to top their Champions League group. Having been drawn with Italian champions AC Milan this would be no mean feat, but Pique insists it is necessary if they are to top the group and avoid the big teams in the next round.

This all means they need to win against BATE on Tuesday. “The three points are super important because we have to aspire to topping the group, which is important for possible match-ups in the next round” Pique told the Barca website.
