PIQUE TIPPED FOR UNITED RETURN
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is currently being linked with a return to England with his former club Manchester United.
Manchester United secured the signing of Gerard Pique when he was a youngster with the Barcelona youth academy.
It was thought that the signing of Gerard Pique was to bring about the best in Rio Ferdinand, as Gerard Pique was thought to be the next Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford. However, things did not work out for Gerard Pique at Old Trafford, as he found first-team opportunity is extremely limited. Despite this, Gerard Pique was signed by Barcelona once again for around £ 4 million.
Since signing for Barcelona, however, Gerard Pique has moved to bigger and better things. Not only has he become one of the best defenders in the world, but he has also a lot of trophies to show for his achievements in the game. He has won the la Liga trophy three times in a row, which is capped by the two Champions League titles.
Now, it has been reported in various British tabloid papers that Manchester United are considering bringing Gerard Pique back to Old Trafford. The major injury suffered by Nemanja Vidic and the considerable decline of Rio Ferdinand has been touted as the reasons.
Despite the arrival of Phil Jones, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been unable to plug the gap in the defence caused by the injury to Nemanja Vidic. Rio Ferdinand is also not the player he once was. As a result, manager Sir Alex Ferguson is once again looking forward to the future and is considering bringing back Gerard Pique. He is a defender who will fit perfectly with the Old Trafford set up now because of his ability to bring the ball back from the defence.
