Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that there is no other player in the world capable of emulating the success of Lionel Messi.

Gerard Pique also has said that Lionel Messi is capable of being called as the best player in the history of the sport.

The Argentine set a new record when it comes to goal scoring exploits for Barcelona after scoring in the 5-3 win over Granada on Tuesday. Cesar Rodrigues has held the record for the most number of goals for Barcelona at 232, but Lionel Messi has just broken the record at just 24 years. The record has remained since the late 1940s, which makes it even more special given that Barcelona have witnessed many great players during this period.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has said that the 3-1 win over Sporting Gijon during the weekend will give his side immense self belief as they get into the business end of the season.

Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola was extremely delighted with the result of the match, despite the fact that Barcelona had defender Gerard Pique sent off in the match.

Perhaps, it was one of the reasons for Guardiola to be extremely happy with the result. Barcelona were coming into the match against Sporting Gijon without their influential player – Lionel Messi. Messi was suspended for this match after getting this fifth yellow card of the season in the previous match.
