MESSI IS BEST IN WORLD

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that there is no other player in the world capable of emulating the success of Lionel Messi.

Gerard Pique also has said that Lionel Messi is capable of being called as the best player in the history of the sport.

The Argentine set a new record when it comes to goal scoring exploits for Barcelona after scoring in the 5-3 win over Granada on Tuesday. Cesar Rodrigues has held the record for the most number of goals for Barcelona at 232, but Lionel Messi has just broken the record at just 24 years. The record has remained since the late 1940s, which makes it even more special given that Barcelona have witnessed many great players during this period.

It is for this reason that Gerard Pique reckons Lionel Messi is the greatest player in the world. Lionel Messi marked the great occasion by scoring a hat-trick in the match. His first goal came in the 17th minute, but it took him until the second half to complete his hat-trick.

So far, the Argentine has scored 48 goals in just 40 matches for Barcelona this season. After the match, Barcelona manager Guardiola said that Lionel Messi is very much similar to Michael Jordan in that there is no player equal to him.

“It’s a pleasure to be in the same generation as him, I believe he’s the best player in the history of the sport. I’ve been lucky enough to be on the same team as him, I consider myself privileged. It doesn’t matter where he plays, if it’s cold or hot, he always proves that he’s the best. Messi will mark an era. He’ll be the best ever,” Gerard Pique said after the match against Granada, which saw Barcelona close the gap on Real Madrid to 8 points.
