PIQUE NOT GIVING UP
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that Barcelona will not be giving up on the la Liga title, despite going 10 points behind Real Madrid in the table.
Barcelona could manage only a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Osasuna recently, which give the opportunity for Real Madrid to extend their lead at the top of the table.
Real Madrid obliged to this gift from Barcelona, as they went on and secured a crushing victory over struggling Levante. As a result of these results, Barcelona are now a mammoth 10 points behind the Real Madrid, which has all but brought an end to their hopes of winning the league title four times in a row.
Barcelona have been a dominant figure in the domestic league since 2008 when Guardiola arrived at the Camp Nou. However, it seems that the reign of supremacy has been brought to an end by the arrival of José Mourinho at Real Madrid after the Portuguese manager guided his Real Madrid team to a 10 point lead in the league.
Even a five-point lead is of a massive advantage in the division containing Real Madrid and Barcelona. Hence, one need not require any second thoughts about Real Madrid’s huge advantage over Barcelona, but Gerard Pique is unwilling to give up yet.
“We aren’t giving up on La Liga. The points difference keeps growing, but I ask the fans to stay by our side because we need them more than ever. The Champions League is a very attractive competition, the most prestigious; we’ll give it our all to try and win it,” the Spain international said in an interview given to the official site of Barcelona.
With Spain amongst the favourites according to the latest online Euro 2012 odds betting odds, Pique might not have to wait too long to win a trophy if Barca end up without one this season, but Pique still believes.
Barcelona will be taking on Leverkusen in the last 16 of the Champions League.
