PIQUE WANTS TO TOP GROUP

Gerard Pique is willing to play through the pain barrier tomorrow night if it helps Barcelona to top their Champions League group. Having been drawn with Italian champions AC Milan this would be no mean feat, but Pique insists it is necessary if they are to top the group and avoid the big teams in the next round.

This all means they need to win against BATE on Tuesday. “The three points are super important because we have to aspire to topping the group, which is important for possible match-ups in the next round” Pique told the Barca website.

“It has been a tough start to the seaosn for me because I haven’t been able to help the team. I have been working at a different pace and that’s not good mentally,” Pique said.

“They [Mascherano and Abidal] are playing spectacularly at the moment. The statistics say that and as the boss says, [Mascherano] is the best centre back at the moment. But I want my spot back, and I hope I’m ready to help conquer BATE.”
