PROUD TO PLAY UNDER PEP

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that he is extremely proud of the fact that he was able to play under the regime of Guardiola – the greatest manager in the history of the Spanish club.

He also said that one day he expects Guardiola to return to the Camp Nou as a manager. Guardiola resigned from his job after for successful years in charge of the club, in which he has transformed the image. Guardiola’s incredible achievement of winning 14 trophies in the last four seasons is almost unprecedented in the world football, which has also put enormous pressure on his successor – Tito Villanova.

Guardiola has said that fatigue was one of the main reasons for him to leave the post as the Barcelona manager. However, he recently has hinted that he might be able to return to management after a few months of relaxation with his family and friends. It is thought that Chelsea are one of the main clubs interested in securing his services, with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich personally behind the quest to secure the former club captain of Barcelona. Despite winning the Champions League, Roberto di Matteo is not expected to be offered the job if Guardiola becomes available.

“He knew internally that it was time to leave, and he will now feel a bit of nostalgia after leaving the club, but will return someday. This season I have not played as well as I would have liked, but I’m very proud to have been with him for four years. I thank him for all that he has taught me and I’m happy that he has added a new title before leaving,” Gerard Pique said. Guardiola managed to once again create history by winning his 14th and possibly final title with Barcelona recently in the form of the Copa del Rey.
