PIQUE BACKS UPSET

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has said that the club can definitely defy the history book by qualifying for the Champions League final after having lost the first leg of the semi-final against Chelsea.

In their long and illustrious history, Barcelona have always failed to make it into the Champions League final after having lost the first leg.

However, they still trail the tie by just one goal, which leads Barcelona defender Gerard Pique into believing that the club can definitely make it into the Champions League final on consecutive occasions. Further, no team has managed to claim the Champions League title in consecutive occasions.

In addition to the above mentioned facts, Barcelona have also failed to beat Chelsea in their last six meetings. Despite being successful against every other team Barcelona manager Guardiola has faced, the former Catalan captain is yet to win against Chelsea.

As a result, Chelsea remains the only team he is yet to taste victory. Due to the impending rumours that Guardiola will leave the Camp Nou at the end of the season, he will certainly want to put the record straight. Lionel Messi will be coming into the match having scored against Chelsea in seven meetings. However, despite these shortcomings, defender Gerard Pique believes that the club can make it into the final.

“Statistics are there to be broken. I don’t believe in them. I believe in our team. We are more than capable of winning and getting to the final. This will not affect us in any way. Our desire to get to the final is great. If we play like we did in London and create as many chances we will go through. Leo offers us a great deal and his goals are vital many times but we have a lot of players who can score,” Gerard Pique said.
