Gerard Pique has become one of the world’s most successful players
Gerard Pique has become one of the world’s most successful players at just 28 years of age.
Few would have expected the Spaniard to achieve so many trophies in the game when he left Barcelona as a youngster. His trophy laden spell started with Manchester United where he won numerous titles including the Champions League and the Premier League. Of course, his best spell came when he returned to Barcelona and oversaw an immensely successful spell under Pep Guardiola. So far in his career, Pique has collected more than 20 major honours and that includes the World Cup and the European Championship as well.
The defender has gone on to admit that he never knew he would win so many trophies. Even the likes of Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, or Lionel Messi have not been fortunate to have such a varied collection in their trophy cabinet. Former players like Clarence Seedorf broke the records by winning Champions League titles with several teams but even he does not have a vast collection like Pique. Even though most of his trophies came with Barcelona, the defender admits that the Catalan club will struggle to win the championship if they are playing in the Premier League. He feels that the style of the Spanish league suits Barcelona as a club.
“I never imagined in my life to win all these tournaments. But I want to win more and I have a good chance to do so. I have four, five years more of my career… But I have to perform at the top-level. If, just once, I say ‘listen, I don’t want to work as much’ then I will be on the bench. Then in the stands. Then out. It’s over. It’s a responsibility when you have won as much as I have done, as much as the teams I have played for have done, then the fans are waiting for more,” said Pique.
