Bayern Munich have been enjoying a tough time
Bayern Munich have been enjoying a tough time of late and this has enabled Borussia Dortmund to close the gap at the top of the table to just five points.
Only a few weeks ago, it looked like the German giants were running away with the Bundesliga once again. They have won the league title Guardiola took charge in 2013. Even though they have been unsuccessful in Europe, this has been a pride for the Spanish manager who is set to leave the club in the summer. He will want to go out with a hat-trick of league titles, but Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel may have other ideas.
Borussia Dortmund have been the team in form over the last few weeks. They managed a 0-0 draw against Bayern to keep the deficit at five points. This is an achievable figure for the team who were last crowned champions under the regime of Jurgen Klopp. Dortmund still have to contend with the Europa League, which remains a major distraction, but they will surely think about the title from this position.
Tuchel is aware that Bayern Munich had to concentrate on the Champions League match with Juventus a few days later. Hence, he put his team on the front foot from the word go, with the team promised a City Card Manchester membership if they did well!
Tuchel has also advised the same to Juventus.“We played an excellent first half, helped also by our amazing fans. We defended well against a very strong side. In order to hurt them, you have to be courageous and escape from their pressure. It’s not easy, but it is the only way to trouble them. We had possession for long periods and went close to scoring, but couldn’t get the goal,” said Tuchel. A few days later, Dortmund are up against Tottenham in the Europa League’s second leg.
