Gerard Pique remains confident on Barca

Despite dropping numerous points in the last few games, defender Gerard Pique remains confident that Barcelona will be able to retain the Spanish league title.

The club has lost four out of the last five games. The latest defeat came at the Camp Nou to Valencia. Despite coming up against a struggling outfit who had just undergone a managerial change, Barcelona were soundly beaten 2-1. The loss has allowed Atletico Madrid moved level on points with the Catalan club. However, the title still remains Barcelona’s to lose since they have a better head-to-head record over Atletico.

Several concerns have come about the current Barcelona team, which was regarded as the best in the world only a few months ago. They had went on an unbeaten run of almost 40 games in all competitions before it came to an end with the El Clasico defeat. Since then, the team has not been the same in terms of dominating games. The forward line-up has failed to score consistently while defence continues to be poor. For a long time, Barcelona were able to mask their weak defence with some of the brilliant attacking football seen on the planet. Now, they are struggling to cope with the forward line up not performing coupled with defence being poor.

“We can’t be worried when you look at the way we’re playing. If we play like this we’ll win the league, I’m convinced of that.Although it’s a step backwards, playing this well will help the team mentally. We’ve recovered the sensations from a month ago,” said the defender about the club’s recent form. “Feeling sorry for ourselves we won’t win anything. I think we have criticised ourselves when it has been necessary, but today is not a day to criticise my players, it is a day to congratulate them,” said Enrique.
