Xavi Hernandez advices Pique not to join any other Team
Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has said that defender Gerard Pique should resist the urge to join the likes of Chelsea or Manchester United.
The Spanish international has been linked with a move to these clubs in the last few months. He has fallen out of favour with manager Luis Enrique, who has been unhappy with his performances of late.Pique’s performances over the last 12 months have been a source of concern for Barcelona, who do not have a lot of strength especially in the central defensive positions.Pique was a vital player for the club during the reign of the Guardiola, but his incredible fall from grace has been shocking to many.
Xavi, though, considersPique to be an important player even now. He says that the Spain international is better off staying at Barcelona rather than moving to other clubs.Pique came through the ranks at Barcelona before joining Manchester United as a youngster. He was brought back to the club for around £ 4 million. At his peak, he was valued in excess of £ 30 million but the recent slump in form could result in Barcelona receiving only around £ 20 million for his services.
The 27-year-old has featured in only nine matches this season.
“Pique is a vital player for the club. You have to ask Enrique why he does not play.In training all I see is a motivated and committed player. It is the coach’s decision and he must be respected,” said Xavi. Pique was only on the bench for the club’s recent 2-1 win over Almeria. This was the second consecutive match that he has missed. Unsurprisingly, the absence has begun after his poor performances against Real Madrid in the latest El Clasico that left his team with a 3-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu.
