Gerard Pique slams Rumors of returning to Premier League
Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has dismissed suggestions that he is looking for a move back to the Premier league.
The Spanish international is currently unhappy after being left out of the first team by manager Luis Enrique. It is reported thatPique feels extremely hard done by the current situation. It appears as if the former Manchester United man is paying the price for Barcelona’s recent poor run of form. The Spanish club paid around £ 5 million to bring he came back to the Camp Nou during the start of Pep Guardiola’s incredible reign.
Pique has been a vital player in the enormous success that the club has had over the years, but his performances have diminished in the last 12 months. After a poor World Cup 2014 with the Spanish national team, it appears thatPique has not recovered yet. He has not played for Barcelona since the 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid. It has led to suggestions that a move back to the Premier league with the likes of Manchester City being interested in him.Pique has immediately moved to quash those rumours by saying that he will stay at Barcelona for the rest of his life. At the same time, the 27-year-old stated that he is certainly not happy to be on the bench often.
“Barcelona is my life and I do not plan to leave. I will continue to fight for a place.I don’t think playing two or three matches and then leaving would be consistent,” said Pique. His former teammate at Manchester United, Scholes said that the defender may struggle to adapt to life in the English league after his long-time out in Spain. “He has been left out the side of late by Luis Enrique and, although he is a very talented defender, I have always thought that Spanish football, and Barcelona in particular, suits him best,” said Scholes.
