Pique warns United off

Manchester United has been warned off their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas by former United defender and current Barcelona defensive mainstay Gerard Pique.

United have made the former Arsenal man a priority signing for the summer transfer window and have already had two bids rejected, one worth £ 25 million and the second worth £ 30 million and new United CEO has already flown back from the club’s pre-season tour to conduct the transfer business.

United are already reported to have lodged a third and final bid for the player worth around £ 35 million as they look for a marquee signing for new manager David Moyes. Pique enjoyed a four year spell under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and according to the Spanish international; United should surrender their fight to bring Fabregas back to the Premier League.

Speaking to an English daily, Gerard Pique stated that United are wasting their time with their pursuit of Fabregas. He went on to add that it took Cesc quite a lot of time to find his dream move back home and having returned home, he won’t give it up so easily. Pique further mentioned that the player has told them he is happy at the club and the city is his home and he intends to stay there.

United manager David Moyes wants to bring in a couple of midfield players after identifying the central role as the position where the side needs strengthening and has identified Fabregas as the player to do that. But Gerard Pique insists his pursuit of the player will not bear any fruit with Barcelona unwilling to sell and the player himself happy at the club he grew up in and then spent eight years away from while he was playing in the Premier League.
